NetGear 54Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter WG311v3 - kap - 09-30-2006

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this adapter? $42.29 including tax at RadioShack. This is for my S/O's HP Pavillion desktop, which she'll be using it to do some work from home. TiA

Without a link, I can't offer much assistance. But I can say that I had a pci wireless adapter once and it sucked. It was a Linksys and they only supported W2k for it. It could only be used by a user that was and administrator on the computer. I found some work-arounds involving running scheduled tasks at login for non-root users, but the drivers were crap. If the computer was moved or re-oriented the signal dropped almost entirely, probably because of the bulk of the computer itself obstructing the signal. I've found that external USB wireless adaptors work much better. You can put them on a cord and orient them for best reception.

I bought the adapter from the store off-line so there is no link.
You're right the signal comes and goes. I keep having to realign the CPU and or the external antenna. I am wondering if getting a signal booster would help. If that will not work then I will go for the external USB wireless adapter.
