The kids who did this will NOT be charged with animal cruelty. I am going to see what I can do to get this rectified here in NM. I am sickened that they won't pay for what they've done.

reptiles singled out and excluded? WTF? So, as far as they are concerned, I can break into their zoo, and torture an alligator, and that isn't animal cruelty.

Maybe some lawyer with common sense, and a heart, will take on a civil case pro bono, and someone can go after them, and their parents.

so how did your trip turn out?

dot - still on trip. I will post a follow-up when I get back.

Racer X, someone on one of my snake lists pointed out that it's probably due to the rattlesnake roundups. If reptiles were included, then roundups would be cruelty.

an eye for an eye leaves both parties blind. it's unfortunate. i hope they help these people rather than toss them aside. we need to understand how to stop this behavior rather than lock and throw away the key.

yes, but history has proven that adolescents that are cruel to, or kill animals, frequently go on to bigger and more gruesome things. Help them, yes, but make damn sure they know that there are grave consequences to their actions, and if they get worse, the punishments get worse, and next time, they will be adults.

racer, i suspect that violent behavior has incalcuable motivations. abuse. genetics. is punishment the real solution? it's a sexy one, but does it solve the problem. i only ask, because i really don't know. and we need to.

Its a shame that a record won't be made of the true damage they caused. However, facing 15 felony charges should be plenty. Hopefully.

what Racer X said...

There's been a lot of research that has said serial killers start out with animal abuse...it's not such an innocent crime.

They SHOULD pay for what they've done. The manner in which they killed the animals was barbaric & horrendous - far beyond just taking a gun & shooting something. These animals were TORTURED.

I'm not saying an eye for an eye - but they should suffer the consequences. This was not an innocent little burglary.
