Grunge didn't start to get really big until 1990 or so. Gothy culture still carried on (and still lingers today).

I rocked the black eyeliner in the mid-to-late 80s myself, but overall I made a pretty mediocre goth.

That is true. LA scenesters get around... And one of my other old classmates is married to Molly Shannon, so that's more than enough SNL connections for me.
