Clamshell iBook PC100 vs. PC133 - Does it matter? - volcs0 - 10-02-2006 I'm buying a 512mb stick for my aging but still functional Clamshell 466. It has been running OS 10.3 without any problems. I'm hoping the extra 384mb will make some difference. On eBay, the 512 mb PC100's can be had for ~$35-40, while the PC133's are $50-$60. Does it make any real difference? Thanks. Sam V. Re: Clamshell iBook PC100 vs. PC133 - Does it matter? - Finney - 10-02-2006 As long as it fits (ie. its not the 2" stick) either should work fine. I'm also looking for a 512 stick for my Clamshell iBook, but haven't seen prices that low. -Finney Re: Clamshell iBook PC100 vs. PC133 - Does it matter? - volcs0 - 10-02-2006 Thanks... Don't outbid me! :-) Re: Clamshell iBook PC100 vs. PC133 - Does it matter? - Donkey Hotay - 10-02-2006 Either PC100 or PC133 will work. PC133's will run at the memory bus speed of the iBook, however slow it may be (PC66 (66MHz)or PC100 (100MHz)). You want 'Low Profile' SO-DIMM (carrier board is only slightly longer than a memory IC) and 'non-stacked' (no piggyback IC's) Take a look at OWC's memory upgrade offerings for the G3 FireWire iBook . There are pictures of the available DIMM's there... 512MB PC100 CL2 2-2-2 LowProfile 1.25 inch(non-stacked)2-2-2 So-DIMM 512MB PC133 CL3/PC100 CL2 SO-DIMM (Low Profile) http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=192&type=Memory&TI=5509&shoupgrds=Show+Upgrades Re: Clamshell iBook PC100 vs. PC133 - Does it matter? - JoeH - 10-02-2006 Main thing you have to watch for with PC133 memory is whether it is PC66 compatible. Most PC100 RAM was made to be usable in PC66, the same does not hold for PC133. Re: Clamshell iBook PC100 vs. PC133 - Does it matter? - hal - 10-02-2006 [quote Finney]As long as it fits (ie. its not the 2" stick) either should work fine. /quote] wrong, wrong, wrong PC133 memory will work if it's programmed to run at slower speeds as well. If it is not, it will not work. Also, it has to fit. Re: Clamshell iBook PC100 vs. PC133 - Does it matter? - Racer X - 10-02-2006 will the clamshell use high density memory sticks? No one has mentioned it. That should be the focus of your concern. |
