Why did my camera sell for so much? - Stavs - 10-03-2006 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&item=170033280900 Its a Canon s70. Guy paid over $400 for it-I didnt pay that new. What is so special about this thing? Other auctions were like $250-$350 tops. I'mnot complaining...just curious. Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - Racer X - 10-03-2006 some people absolutely refuse to lose when they get in a bidding war, and it is possible it has some functionality that someone just had to have (like the swivel body on a Nikon Coolpix 995 for example, or the removable lens on a tether like some of the real early Sony digital cameras) They are also an eBay newbie, and may be clueless, or setting you up for a scam. Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - Carm - 10-03-2006 New bidder ![]() If everything goes through, great. OR Snipper programs set really high. Happens sometimes. EDIT: Sometimes when you set a small opening bid, you get more people interested. Carm Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - jdc - 10-03-2006 why does the back on your mini look split open? Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - Stavs - 10-03-2006 He paid...he paid real quick and everything is all good, so I'm happy. I had another guy bid real close to that also. As for the mini, looks normal to me..its how I got it. Stavs Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - Harry in MI - 10-03-2006 Maybe this one can be hacked for infared "hot spot" photography, popular with some? Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - Kraniac - 10-03-2006 Nope, none of the above...the S70 is an extremely sought after digicam because it has a 28mm wideangle lens on the short end and it produces RAW files as well as pretty good image quality. The camera that followed it, the S80, eliminated RAW files and, consequently, pissed off a lot of fans of that Canon "s" line. Actually, I've heard of a few of those NEW going for more than original store prices. You had a cool camera that people still want. The digicam market is a pain. not many real wide lenses and RAW is falling away fast. Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - pRON aHOLIC - 10-03-2006 There are a lot of simply nutty people on ebay. That particular model was not rare by any means. Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - Tofer - 10-03-2006 [quote Stavs]He paid...he paid real quick and everything is all good, so I'm happy. I had another guy bid real close to that also. Um...correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the way proxy bidding works. You'll always get a bidder bidding real close, or the winning bid wouldn't have been that high. I.e., the winner is always one bid increment above the next highest bidder (and I know there are some exceptions, with dutch auctions, etc.). -Tofer Re: Why did my camera sell for so much? - Kraniac - 10-03-2006 Pron, I didn't mention anything about it being rare, people just want it, for those two particular features in one camera...I've heard of more than one person who, for one reason or another, paid a couple of notches above what that camera is worth used. |
