Anyone doing Radon mitigation in their home? - TLB - 10-03-2006

Just received the results of a long term radon study of my home. The range is high enough to waranty mitigation and I believe it is required prior to resale. Anyone have a mitigation system installed? How much did it set you back? (I've seen $800-$5,000). How much did it lower the radon concentration?

The house I live in was 12ppm and was mitigated at time of sale. Cost about $1200. House is 1952 with cement foundation/basement floor and no crawl spaces, sump areas, or other voids in the foundation to add cost to mitigation system.

We ended up having to put a system in for the house we sold (in Maryland) for the same cost, same easy install.

I think the Pump is about $300 or so and it's all labor and $50.00 worth of PVC otherwise.

Found this on eBay, pump prices have dropped a lot since 2000 (when I last looked at systems).

'Mint...
As I understand it, Radon isn't as big a problem for us here on the west coast...

Just crack a window once in a while... which, judging by that stack of dirty socks in the corner, wouldn't be a bad idea anyway... Big Grin

That iCat still cracks me up...

That is correct. Those of us in northern California west of the Sierra Nevada don't really have to worry. The rock types that make up the crust in this part of the continent do not constitute significant radon hazards.

On the other hand...
If you live near a Uranium mine... probably better not to even HAVE a basement.. much less spend time down there...

Big in the Denver area.

Last house had it put in - had to fight with previous owner to get it done. New house tested better.
