Flash Drives mounting as blank CD-R's? - blusubaru - 10-05-2006
It's generally with the new SanDisk Cruzers. A student will plug them into one of the new intel iMacs and it will mount on the desktop with a blank cd-r image. Then the finder asks what the user would like to do with the cd, "ignore, eject or open". Any idea what causes the computer to think it's a cd?

'Did a little Googling. It seems that your students need to remove the soft partition for the utility software using Windows if they want to get rid of that behavior.

Anybody have a problem with these Cruzers causing their Mac to not be able to shut down, or causing problems after the Mac sleeps?

Can't say from experience, the students are not inactive long enough at the iMacs.

Say a little more--what makes a bad USB hookup? Do I have to run a cable directly to the onboard USB port?
Have you got a link or anything on how I can fix this?

It is a USB software thing, some versions of the OS were worse than others. Also, some USB devices are just built bad.
