FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - weapon - 10-05-2006 http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/177123 They are putting the offersheet together as we speak. Just have to take the UA test. Which should be no problem. Have not done any of that stuff since my college years. Thanks for all the encouragement guys and gals, even elmo3 ![]() We still have not taked about the platform issue but I guess I will bring it up at the offer signing. Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - jdc - 10-05-2006 just to satisfy my curiosity, where are you in the world? oh, and congrats =) Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - Racer X - 10-05-2006 That is exactly when I would. Not to hold the job hostage, but if you are pen in hand, and they have an offer, they want you. A computer and software of your choice is a trifling issue at that point. When the computer and software are the tools you use as a craftsperson so to speak, having a company dictate your specific choice of tools is pretty petty. And I chose the word "dictate" for all in connotes. Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - elmo3 - 10-05-2006 question: is the tool in question actually the Adobe Suite, or the hardware and file system that the Adobe Suite runs on? The tool in question is really the Adobe Suite. The file system underneath has no bearing on the productivity of the creative artist, until and unless the artist in question is asked to go out of the Adobe Suite (for example) and do something to the hardware and/or file system. But if the artist is never asked to do anything with the hardware and/or file system, then those aren't the tools in question. The boss is perfectly logical to say, "Oh, we have people who deal with that hardware stuff. I need you to be creative and use the *creative* tools." The warehouse driver doesn't really care what gasoline the company owner specifies for the delivery truck; he cares that the truck works and has a/c and a radio and lets him do his job well and efficiently. If he went in there and insisted that he simply cannot drive a truck on Shell gas, that he uses only Sunoco gas, the company owner would seriously question that. Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - weapon - 10-05-2006 I am in Portland, Oregon. Oregon has a ton of creatives in it. The job market is tighter than tight. I have been searching for a decent job for over 3 years, freelancing in the meantime. This is better than decent. Probably the best job offer I have ever seen. I could go so far as to say a career versus just a job. Plus it is not drivin by results or undue pressure. Since it is internal for the company, there is none of that agency BS. That is something that I am looking forward to. Basically the job entails creative for 15 - 20 major tradeshows a year. But they happen at the same time every year so the schedule is set. No real surprises. Plenty of time to get things done. The only major obstacles in the design is the government. The specs change at the last minute and sometimes the product gets delayed due to military red tape. Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - weapon - 10-05-2006 Elmo3 is right. As I said before Adobe CS2 is basically the same on both. As he said the IT Guys will solve all of my other problems and I will learn to work in the windows environment. For this job I would work in the nude. As they say adapt or die. Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - Racer X - 10-05-2006 [quote weapon]I am in Portland, Oregon. Oregon has a ton of creatives in it. A very very good friend of ours works for Skyline here in Seattle, and I am a photographer for a defense contractor. Once again, good luck. And with the Intel macs dual platform, why should they really care at this point. Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - elmo3 - 10-05-2006 [quote weapon]The job market is tighter than tight. You have passed a milestone: you have proven, to yourself AND to the world, that you are among the best of the best and that no matter what, you will not only survive, you will thrive and prosper. You are moving from existing to living. Others will hire in, others will move on, and no doubt at some point there will be reductions in force--commonly known as layoffs. Or maybe just reductions based on simple business re-adjustment. That happens all the time. After 6 to 12 months, take a look at the people around you and imagine that your department starts downsizing. Figure out which co-worker management would let go first, which would go second, and so on. You know what? You're probably spot-on. And with the confidence you've gained from getting this position, plus the confidence you'll get by simply doing a great job (thankful people tend to produce results as opposed to simply mark time), you will have positioned yourself to survive and thrive even within that kind of environment. You will be valued. You've passed a milestone. Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - weapon - 10-05-2006 That is what I am going to say when they order my laptop. Macbook pro here I come. Seriously I am so excited I need to hit the gym and burn off this extra energy... Re: FU 2 the FU: I GOT IT!!!!!! - blooz - 10-05-2006 Hot new job Leader! |
