I wish there was a way to specify to which device you want to send iMessages. - space-time - 02-11-2017 I like iMessage when it works, since I know a message has been delivered, and sometimes I even know my dear wife saw it and is typing back. but sometimes it drives me nuts. I want to send an iMessage to my wife, and if the macBook at home is ON, it shows as delivered, when in fact she might be in a location where she does not have good cell signal. I have no idea if she saw the message or not. I tried to make a new contact, with her phone number only, but then iCloud has her iCloud account linked to her cell phone, and even if I want to send the iMessage to her cell (not iCloud account), it still shows as Delivered. Sometimes I use Viber instead, but then she does not always keep that App open. When she was abroad and her a new cell number which was NOT linked to her iCloud, things seems a little less confusing. Maybe I should try to decouple our cell phones from our iCloud account, but I also like the convenience of sitting at the computer and receiving iMessage sent to my iPhone on my Mac Mini. I wish there was a way to specify to which device you want to send iMessages. Re: I wish there was a way to specify to which device you want to send iMessages. - rich in distress - 02-11-2017 One thing I've noticed while on Sierra, sleep logs out the computer after 15 minutes. I usually change this kind of behavior, but left it intact. With so much cloud integration, the computer is supposed to be as personal as a phone... So maybe reconsider leaving the computer on? Re: I wish there was a way to specify to which device you want to send iMessages. - modelamac - 02-11-2017 My wife has an iPad, Mac, and iPhone. All texts go to her iPhone #. All three devices can send and receive, but use her iPhone # to do so. Never a problem of her not getting a message. Re: I wish there was a way to specify to which device you want to send iMessages. - space-time - 02-12-2017 OK, let me clarify. Her MacBook is home and is ON, kid is doing homework. Wife is away in a location with spotty cell signal. I send an iMessage to her cell number. It goes to both MacBook and Cell Phone. If it reaches at least one of these devices, it shows as "delivered". I have no way to tell if it made it to her cell phone, or if Delivered means it reached the MacBook. Re: I wish there was a way to specify to which device you want to send iMessages. - rich in distress - 02-12-2017 Sign off from the computer?... I mean from iCloud services. Re: I wish there was a way to specify to which device you want to send iMessages. - Drew - 02-12-2017 Mine shows "Read" when the receiver has actually seen the message, while "Delivered" just means that it arrived at the device. Re: I wish there was a way to specify to which device you want to send iMessages. - Article Accelerator - 02-12-2017 On the receiving device: iOS: Settings: Messages: Send & Receive: enter a unique address for that device macOS: Messages: Preferences: Accounts: You can be reached for messages at: check a unique address for that device When sending, send to the appropriate device address.
