Microsoft Office 2008 (excel) on Sierra? - h linamen - 02-11-2017

My wife is currently using Snow Leopard OS and we want to go to Sierra but she uses Microsoft Office 2008, specifically Excel. Will this work on Sierra?

I'm running 2008 Microsoft Office on my mid-2012 MBP with Sierra 10.12.3. I haven't had any problems, yet.

MindMeld, thanks for the response. Have you used EXCEL without problems?

If Office works, Excel should.

I have Office 2008 on my SL machine, and one of the components of Office is "Microsoft Query", which is strictly PPC.

I just installed Office 2008 on Sierra. If there's anything specific you want me to test out, let me know. It seems to be working okay.

One thing to keep in mind is MS dropped support for it years ago. This apparently also means that updates for it are not available through Microsoft Update. So even though it launches the updater and the updater will find an update for itself, it will not find Office updates. I had to track them down manually and install them.

I'm running Sierra and Office 2008 and have had no problems using Excel.

Hmmm... I was unable to install Office 2008 on my new Mac with Sierra. I'll have to take a closer look at that.

I'm starting a spread sheet for my tax return data. I will know for sure when I actually start entering my data as it becomes available.

It might be possible to run Office 2008 after a Sierra update if you already have Office installed, but not be possible to run the Office installer under Sierra.
