Al Jarreau is gone at 76 - vision63 - 02-12-2017

Which in my mind is still too young to leave us. I always try to catch him in concert. My favorite concert which is vague in my mind was he and Brenda Russell at I believe Dodgers Stadium in the 80's. He was a big part of my musical emergence. My high school girlfriend Pearl introduced this "Funkateer" to his smooth sounds. She listened to a more jazzy station than the rest of us kids, KJLH, owned by Stevie Wonder and stood for "Kindness, Joy, Love and Happiness." Jarreau was breezy and delightful. I was still into funk and rock primarily though at that time, in addition to many other strains of music that pleased me.

I picked up this from Urban Ore in Berkley sometime last year. I also snagged that Lakeside album.

I saw him in 1989. He was the first concert at Atlanta's Lakewood amphitheater. He put on a great show in front of an audience filled with Atlanta politicians and dignitaries. R.I.P.

He is definately in the "how old!" category.. I never would have thought of him as being 76.

Tremendous talent. RIP

Aw, man! Sad

For some reason, I thought he was younger. Such a great, unique voice! R.I.P.

Yikes, KJLH, there's a blast from the past. They lived on one of my car radio bottoms for a long time.

In my previous life in radio, he was a staple. Didn't have a ton of hits, but the ones he had got regular airplay and people loved his smooth voice (for good reason). I can still picture him in the We Are The World video (at about 2:05). He always seemed so happy.

R.I.P., Mr J.

They definitely did. So much good music back then.
