What strength forgiveness - Webster J. Duck - 10-07-2006

I’m in absolute awe at the courage of the Amish communities.

And if they were not buried deep within America, the radicals on the other side of the world would not bat an eye to eradicate them.

Yep. And the beat goes on...

...because me, and you, and radicals on the other side of the world and on this side haven’t the courage to silence it.

What strength forgiveness...

The Amish are a wonderful group of people. They are more or less self-sufficient. I was taught in school that they are among the few examples of truly communist society. Not Marxist, not Socialist, but Communist. The support each other through everything. They are human, but very noble on the whole. Quakers and Shakers are similar.

Any person on this earth can take another person's life. It takes a truly powerful person to forgive for that crime.

I took care of Amish kids when I worked in Delaware, simply amazing faith, and strong families.
As hooked on technology as I am, I wonder how much better off I would be to trade my toys for that level of faith.

I don't know that I could do it for faith, but I could easily do it for the lifestyle.

Are there any Shakers left?
They don't have kids.

That is an interesting point. I lived near a former Harmonist community and the place is now run as a museum of sorts. The furniture was all donated by their decendants. Go figure that out.

Technically they were Harmonists, but they were celibate and lived similar lifestyles to the Shakers. Their descentants are a bit confused about their origins.

I grew up in that tri-state area (PA, NJ, DE).

I would go with my mother on Tuesdays to the Pennsylvania Dutch market where we would buy fresh meats and other goods from the Amish. My friends and I would act like asses and snicker about their `peculiar` ways, but my mother somehow got it through my thick head that they were to be admired and respected.

My personal animosity toward the overly pious faithful has been growing of late -- and with good reason -- however, when I see what humans of faith are really capable of being, it almost pulls me back toward the flock.

Almost.

You apparently didn't notice that a `Deep Inside America` man was the one who walked into their building and shot them?

Anyway, I could say more, but I won't.
