Anyone use Sonnet Tempo™ SSD Pro Plus 6Gb/s SATA PCIe 2.5" SSD Host Adapter ? - pRICE cUBE - 02-14-2017 Looks like this could work for my faster data throughput needs and compatible with my old Mac Pro 1,1. Does the MP 1,1 get the full 6Gb/s or is that for newer Mac Pros? I am aware I would need to by the SSD separately. https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%20Technologies/TSATA6SSDPSE/ ![]() Re: Anyone use Sonnet Tempo™ SSD Pro Plus 6Gb/s SATA PCIe 2.5" SSD Host Adapter ? - PeterW - 02-14-2017 The PCIe slots in a Mac Pro 1,1 are 1.0, not the 2.0 required for the Sonnet card. Re: Anyone use Sonnet Tempo™ SSD Pro Plus 6Gb/s SATA PCIe 2.5" SSD Host Adapter ? - jdc - 02-14-2017 1.1 MP is PCIe slots are too old for these cards. Not sure why a 2 drive card, OWCs singe drive card is $50... but 2006-2007 Mac Pro. These models utilize PCIe 1.0 slot which cannot be configured (even with the Expansion Utility in OS X) to address Accelsior S as anything but as a first generation one-lane card. As a result, Accelsior S performance will be limited to 190-200MB/s data rates. If maximum data rate speedis desired, we recommend the installation of a 2.5" OWC Mercury SSD in an open Mac Pro drive bay. See the table about 2/3 of the way down, here: https://www.apricorn.com/upgrades/vel-solox2 I have one in perfect condition I could sell, below Amazon/newegg prices. PM me if you're interested. Re: Anyone use Sonnet Tempo™ SSD Pro Plus 6Gb/s SATA PCIe 2.5" SSD Host Adapter ? - MrNoBody - 02-15-2017 Apricorn cards work great, pNp simplicity. Have the Apricorn Velocity Solo x2 in my MP 5,1. Only costs $60AR Re: Anyone use Sonnet Tempo™ SSD Pro Plus 6Gb/s SATA PCIe 2.5" SSD Host Adapter ? - decay - 02-15-2017 This one? https://www.apricorn.com/upgrades/vel-solo-x1 Re: Anyone use Sonnet Tempo™ SSD Pro Plus 6Gb/s SATA PCIe 2.5" SSD Host Adapter ? - AllGold - 02-15-2017 pRICE cUBE wrote: As others have pointed out, that card is not compatible with the Mac Pro 1,1. But even aside from that, you're talking about putting a $300 card in a $100 computer. I'd say it's time to think about getting a $300-$400 computer (Mac Pro 4,1 or 5,1) that won't need such heroic measures to get up to speed. |
