distnoted process takes up ALL cpu? - Uncle Wig - 02-15-2017 Running my new 2015 iMac, 10.11.6. I get this phenomenon where one or two background processes take over all my CPU and render the whole computer unresponsive. The spinning beachball appears on every app, one by one, beginning with Finder. When this happens, looking Activity Monitor (before it goes unresponsive too) shows a process called distnoted using over 200% of CPU. I also see sysmond using 103%. I have to shut down with the power switch and restart. I've searched Google and it seems to be a not unusual thing with El Cap. But I don't know what triggers it and if there's any way to prevent it. Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to happen randomly, maybe once a week. I switched back to top in the Terminal and no powerd problems any more. I've seen both distnoted and sysmond processes at 100% in other Macs but I don't remember if I could Force Quit them from Activity Monitor or whether I just restarted. Re: distnoted process takes up ALL cpu? - hal - 02-15-2017 I've seen a host of similar problems after installing the last security update to my 10.11.6 2014 imac... I'm thinking it's the OS at fault here... Re: distnoted process takes up ALL cpu? - Article Accelerator - 02-15-2017 hal wrote: I'm thinking it's a third-party application or utility at fault. |
