Discount Pet Drugs. These guys had the lowest price on every item I looked at, plus the lowest shipping. I ordered Interceptor (heartworm prevent) that required an Rx, which I didn't fax until late Thurs. Today (Sat) it arrived via Priority mail, and w/a higher $ amt on its postage label than the standard ground shipping I paid for.
Highly recommended.

Checked the prices a few months ago, more $$$ then my vet.
I gotta agree that for most folks it is cheaper, but my vet is old school, been taking my dogs to him(and now his son) for 30 years. He doesn't gouge his patients owners. He has a ton of clientele.

You're lucky, as am I to have a vet like that. I'm on about the 30th year, now with old doc's daughter. I honestly haven't priced internet meds for heartworm and flea/tick medicine because (a) I'm convinced my vet isn't gouging me and (b) I'm more that willing to pay a small premium to keep the contact and support her vet practice.
I understand the sense in shopping if one is dealing with an animal practice where you don't really have any personal connection with the vet and staff.

We had an old country vet that retired a couple of years ago. Dr. Brown lived on the property and on the occasions that we needed emergency service (4 dogs) he would come into the office when needed. Fee for emergency was $20 plus meds etc. New emergency vet has a sign on the door that there is a $104 charge just to walk in and speak to a person. How do they come up with 1 oh 4? That $4 I'm sure was critical to their business model. I miss the personal service I used to get, new owners are all business and profit is the only motivation here.

My pup is on a drug that retails for $11 a pill and I shop pretty hard, these guys are the cheapest I can find and very fast.

For several years, we have been going to a very good vet practice with three caring and able vets. Prices are very reasonable for both services and medications compared to others in the area. They recently saved our 3 year old minitiature schnauzer who had acquired a serious liver infection. They kept him for 5 days on IV most of the time and pulled him through. Cost for his exams, IVs, blood work multiple times, medications, checking our other schnauzer, and a 20# bag of special dog food was $385 and it was worth every penny. I am retired and we like to minimize expense, but we don't question what they charge for the medications they prescribe.

My cat is currently on 3 medications and this place is MUCH cheaper than the vet. They don't seem to carry one of the meds I need at the prescribed dosage but I am going to email them to see if they can get it for me.
I take my cat to one of the highest priced (and most well respected) vets in the city (I didn't know that when I started going there) and as she is 13 and has a few medical issues I don't want to make a change. The support staff is great and I really love the Dr. we see there but I could do without the $125 bill every time I walk in the door.
When I got my dog, I took him to a vet recommended by the shelter and they are much more reasonably priced although they are not as convenient and I am not crazy about the Drs. They seem competent but I don't get the same feeling of confidence from them that I get from the vet who treats my cat.
I need to do some vet shopping before Cooper is due for his shots in the spring!

While I'm at it, here's another tip: Many pet's Rx meds are the same as generics available for human-types. Make a call to Walgreen's or other discount pharmacy. They can fill these from your vet's scrip for big savings -and w/quick local pickup.
Animal pills are typically of a smaller dosage than the same stuff for people. If the pharmacy doesn't have the correct size of a given drug, they can often still fill it w/the one they stock -always if the drug is one that's available non-Rx for humans. If the dose you need is 1/4 that of the smallest they sell (which is common), then cutting the pills down to halves or quarters is easy w/pill cutters that all drugstores carry.

Funny you mention that- the first time I had to give her any medication they sent me to Walgreens to have the scrip filled. The Dr. told me the same thing you just mentioned.
Unfortunately, the one med they don't carry is a capsule so I can't split it.
Thankfully, T.J. is doing very well- these are maintenance meds and a nutritional supplement to address a chronic liver enzyme issue she has had for a few years. I am lucky- she doesn't fight me too much when I shove 3 pills down her throat every night!
