Calling MRF Plumbers: I need help solving the Navier–Stokes equations for my shower - space-time - 03-04-2017 Specifically this equation Seriously folks: here is the problem. When I pull that little knob on the diverter to send water to the shower, it makes a high pitch noise. Two years ago I replaced the diverter and the sound was gone, but it came back after about a year. here are my questions What exactly makes that noise? I can't pinpoint where it is coming from, sometimes it seems to be the diverter, other times it seems like it's coming from inside the wall. Why did it stop when I replaced the diverter? the old one looked bad, but did the job, i.e. stopped the water flow in the tub and all water went up to the shower. Why did the sound return? The sound is gone by itself within 30-60 seconds. The sound also changes and sometimes goes away if I open and close the driverter. Or if I change the handheld shower from one mode to another. Or if I change the water temperature setting. Or sometimes it takes a combination of these. What exactly makes this sound? Re: Calling MRF Plumbers: I need help solving the Navier–Stokes equations for my shower - Kraniac - 03-04-2017 Space, i think i remember that you queried the forum when you replaced this tub spout w/ diverter??..mebbe not It's your diverter most likely..if it was a basic hardware store spout or big box store deal..they do this as they wear..they loosen up pretty quickly because they aren't the greatest quality..im not sure why you installed but this is common with these kinds of parts As the warm water causes parts to expand a bit it can go away as the parts seat themselves more snugly..biggly...as the diverter wears more it can become worse etc... The parts are loosening up This sound can appear to travel via vibration and what not.. If it's not the diverter then you have some troubleshooting ahead.. but i think it is Re: Calling MRF Plumbers: I need help solving the Navier–Stokes equations for my shower - space-time - 03-04-2017 Thanks Kraniac! Re: Calling MRF Plumbers: I need help solving the Navier–Stokes equations for my shower - Racer X - 03-04-2017 I hear it every now and then in older, modest hotels. Really pisses me off as just opening or closing the valve a bit FREQUENTLY makes it go away. There is always some jackass nearby at 3am with his/her shower just howling away. Re: Calling MRF Plumbers: I need help solving the Navier–Stokes equations for my shower - Will Collier - 03-04-2017 This post needs a TRIGGER WARNING. You just gave me some very nasty flashbacks to undergraduate theoretical aerodynamics, and I hope you're proud of yourself.
