New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - samintx - 03-21-2017 The thieves will have a ball with iPads and computers packed in you checked luggage. I don't have anything the size of an iPhone to download a thousand pics I take on trips. My trips are foreign and to some of the banned countries and airlines. I hope some bright soul comes up with an anti theft for checked luggage. Wifi not an option in most places I go. Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - Racer X - 03-21-2017 And the airlines are completely off the hook if anything is stolen. But from what I have read, it is only certain areas, and for a limited time. They may have some intel of some sort that gave them reason to make this restriction. Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - Paul F. - 03-21-2017 Seems to me like the solution is not to take direct flights to/from those countries, but take connecting flights through countries with sane security regulations. But I haven't investigated the whole thing very much... just rolled my eyes and shaken my head thus far. Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - samintx - 03-21-2017 Paul F. wrote: Not an option. Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - LyleH - 03-21-2017 You realize these restrictions only apply to 8 countries, and only when you are coming to the USA from those countries - not when you fly to those (or any other countries). (Unless I read it wrong) Here's a link: https://moneyish.com/ish/travelers-from-these-8-countries-will-soon-be-prohibited-from-carrying-their-ipads-many-other-electronics-on-planes/ LyleH Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - OWC Jamie - 03-21-2017 Not flying back from any of the handful of countries this applies to. I'm not surprised the usual outlets are spinning this into something it is not. Gotta keep the sheep enraged. Can't manipulate and control them otherwise. Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - Speedy - 03-21-2017 Keep all your pics on memory cards. Or buy a large capacity phone. Or both. Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - 3d - 03-22-2017 Uhhhh,,, hmmmm. Let's rethink this. The death of in-flight entertainment? American Airlines scraps screens and tells fliers to bring their own. Passengers on board American Airlines’ new fleet of aircraft will have to bring their own entertainment, because the cabins won’t feature any built-in video screens. The world's largest carrier said it decided to ditch seat-back monitors on its new Boeing 737 Max aircraft – intended for domestic routes in the US – because most passengers travel with mobile phones, laptops and tablets. Instead of investing in screens it will upgrade in-flight internet speed, to ensure passengers can browse the web and stream movies quickly. “More than 90 per cent of our passengers already bring a device or screen with them when they fly,” the airline said in a statement to its employees on Tuesday. Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - Racer X - 03-22-2017 IFE really adds weight to a plane. But back to the real issue. Homeland must have some intel about a potential ISIS threat. We won't know much more than that unless a big arrest/failed attack OR there is a successful attack. Edit https://gma.yahoo.com/airplane-electronics-rules-stem-isis-associated-threat-232505443--abc-news-topstories.html Yup, credible threat involving electronics in the cabin. Re: New TSA travel restrictions a bummer - tenders - 03-22-2017 I think this is a stealth protectionist move designed to interfere with airlines that are subsidized by Middle Eastern governments and are crushing US airlines on profitable long-haul routes. Flew coach from NYC to Perth, Australia in 2015 on Emirates, via Dubai. A stellar travel experience with great service and a sparkling new plane that made the return trip home via American feel like a covered wagon. Would have been worth not having a laptop to iPad. |
