Installing 10.4 off the *20* CD Set = MADNESS! - Paul F. - 10-11-2006

I should have just waited until tomorrow....
My 10.4 install DVD is locked in an office with the office owner not here today.
My own personal 10.4 install DVD is at home..

I have the TWENTY CD set that came with our last batch of eMacs...
And I'm on CD number 14...

With every excruciatingly slow CD swap.. I'm tempted to click "cancel"...
But I don't.

I thought I left this sort of thing behind when the 1.44 mb Floppy was abandoned...

CD 15

how'd you get CD's? we bought a bunch of CD-ROM only eMacs awhile back that came with Panther installed, and Tiger on DVD only, for machines that cannot read DVD's as equipped. Apple wanted $$ to exchange DVD's for CD's... was wondering if they came w/ your batch of eMacs? and were yours CD only, too?

The retail Tiger CD set only has 4 disks so I wonder what's on the other sixteen.

I feel your pain---When MS office 4.2 (I think) came out you had floppies and/or CD option for $10 more--but the CD was delayed a few weeks, so I opted for the 27 Floppy install on my PowerBook.
Floppy #24 kepy failing--4 attempts, from scratch--and it was a no go. This took forever!!!
Called MS and they would send me for free a replacement SET--couldn't just send the one floppy. I opted for 2 day delivery for a few $$$ extra. 4 dyas later no Floppies--called MS--they screwed up and sent it ground--so they overnighted another new set. nad a few days later the ground set showed up---I have 3 full sets if nearly 100 Floppies---and was very relieved when a month later the CD showed up!!!
That gave me a huge supply of floppies-more than ever from AOL.

Buzz;

Yup... eMacs with CDROM drive only...
And we didn't do anything special to get the 20 CD set (actually, 23 once you add the developers tools and hardware test CD's).
They include all the bundled software that comes with the eMacs (most of which I un-selected... which saved me 4 CD's worth of installing...).

I did make the mistake of having the installer install iLife '06, which seemed to be MOST of the CD's.

Man. I remember the thrill of running installers supplied on multiple floppy disks. Would one of the disks crap out? Would you have been sitting there for an hour when it did?

Good times, good times…

I could probably take a trip down Disk Prompt Memory Lane by backing up my 400GB hard drive to CDs using Retrospect.
