Need to set up a presentation room at work - mgmt wants WiFi Plasma- anybody have experience with it? - JoeM - 10-12-2006 Just got this dropped on me today as I was going home. Mgmt wants a 50" Plasma screen to show Win XP PowerPoint/ video presentations with "no wires" needed to connect their laptops to the screen. I first suggested HDMI connection with wiring installed away in a mounted trough but they are interested in WiFi or DNLA. Anybody know if this stuff works reliably? I will be studying up on what is actually available over the next few days. We're getting a 40+ inch screen in our conference room. I have a feeling once management sees the price difference between wireless and wired they may change their minds. But, then again I don't knwo the exact numbers. Should be an interesting comparison to make. Re: Need to set up a presentation room at work - mgmt wants WiFi Plasma- anybody have experience with it? - JoeM - 10-12-2006 Apparently they aren't concerned about cost - (we'll see when the estimates come in ![]() Doesn't seem like much out there besides projectors right now. I did find this: http://www.ruckuswireless.com/ Re: Need to set up a presentation room at work - mgmt wants WiFi Plasma- anybody have experience with it? - Filliam H. Muffman - 10-12-2006 A lot of it is just buzzwords for now. Streaming uncompressed 1920 x 1080 video might just be possible if you find the fastest pre-802.11n hardware on the market. You will need a computer driving the plasma screen because I have not heard of any equipment designed to stream video straight to a screen on the market yet. Re: Need to set up a presentation room at work - mgmt wants WiFi Plasma- anybody have experience with it? - Zoidberg - 10-12-2006 In my experience, clients usually say money is no object until they get the first estimate or invoice, and then they want to know where all the money went/is going and how they can cut the cost but still get that cutting edge equipment. ![]() |
