Point & shoot with good movie mode - pinkoos - 10-12-2006

Hi,

My brother-in-law is looking for a new point and shoot camera...maybe 5 to 6 megapixels that has a good 640 x 480 movie mode. He basically wants this camera to do his still pics and video as well.

Anybody know of any good ones out there?

Thanks.

how much does he want to spend?

And is compact important, or zoom? The Canon S3-IS is said to have a very good movie mode and its zoom range is more videocam-like (plus it works WHILE shooting).

I ordered the ELPH 800-IS last night which also has a nice movie capability and lets you zoom while shooting, I'll let you know how it works out.

His budget is about $300 tops. Compact is preferable since it's more likely that they will use it if it's something my sister-in-law can just throw in her purse when she takes their girls out, etc.

Zoom is not so important. I guess the standard 3x zoom would be fine, though if he ends up getting a bit higher zoom, than image stabilization would be a must.

Thanks.
