f/u DashCam deal - ztirffritz - 05-16-2017

I'd linked to a deal for an inexpensive DashCam. I received the DashCam and I'm happy to report that so far, I feel that it is a good deal. It didn't come with an MicroSD card, but I had a bunch left over from when I was the IT Manager and decommissioned 40+ Blackberry devices. It records in 1080p supposedly. It powers on and off with the car if it is plugged in. It has a battery that will operate it for maybe 10 minutes otherwise. They're still available from Yugster.com here:

They're listed elsewhere on the internet for between $25-$85, so maybe there's something wrong with these that I haven't learned about yet. I'll try to upload a video to my youtube channel later for anyone who wants to see the quality of the video.

I got mine a week ago, I didn't try to install it yet.

Will test it and if I like it, I may buy some for my Dad and my Sister.

Our Sponser sells a WickedHD G1W for about $30. Much better quality video.

I bought this model: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GQP020 for $50 on amazon after reading a good review site (which came from a link posted here... sorry, don't have time/patience to look it up). Anyway, the thing I liked best about it is that it uses a capacitor instead of a battery. That means it has a much higher level of heat resistance than a battery-based model. I live in Central Florida, which means brutally hot summer days. Since I have it mounted to my rear-view mirror, it gets a lot of direct sun. Batteries will die after a while in the hot sun, and may take a while to start up in hot weather. Not a problem with this model.

Video quality is pretty good (1080p). You can easily read the license plate in front of you when stopped. When moving, you can make out the plate of the car directly in front of you, and also ones to your right or left, as long as they are about one car length ahead. Since mine has no battery, it shuts off immediately when the car is turned off. Mine is semi-permanently mounted to the rear-view mirror, and is very inconspicuous from the outside, and very inconspicuous from the inside. After a day or two, I forgot it was even there. It takes 5 minute videos in a loop. After it fills up the micro-SD card, it starts overwriting the oldest files. I estimated that it will fill a 32GB card after about 5 hours of driving.

Here's a link to the video that I made. I'm pretty sure that this isn't 1080p ;-) but for $15, I'm not going to complain too much. It does what I want and need.

Boring. Needs more crashes! Confusedmiley-laughing001:
