The dyno fails are the ones that get all the attention. They can survive 500 HP if it is done in a properly engineered build. I would guess there are a half dozen in every major metro area that last a couple of years as 'daily drivers.'

"a couple of years"? a well built V-8 can put out 500 hp for several decades if taken care of.

For the record, a dyno operator can melt down just about any motor they want. The key is to register max power WITHOUT destroying it. I have never run a dyno, but been present when dozens of motors have been run. My drinking buddy used to build and test diesel generators, and the key has always been enough airflow for the intake, and proper cooling. In their case, they had a 500 gallon cooling tower that the water circulated though, cooled the diesel's heat exchanger (water to water radiator).

That's from a 2.0 liter motor. The equivalent for a 5.7 liter is 1400 HP.

Yeah, some hair dryers and you can get that out of a V-8. Easy to get 800 out of a Buick V-6 with 2 turbos.

Not so crazy, Mercedes Benz sells a 375 hp 2.0L with full factory warranty.

There's a couple around here with a wild mod... after dealing with his building hot rods for decades, she asked for a nice little one of her own. He took a teeny 1930's rear engine Fiat and shoehorned a big block V-8 into the back. And painted the whole thing hot pink. It's adorable. Insane, but adorable.

Those motors are designed for the power they put out. Probably not so for a 2L Honda: less strength in the crankshaft, smaller bearing areas, weaker in the low end of the block.
