What app are you using to get more control over Time Machine? - hal - 05-26-2017
I want A LOT more control over TM. Decided to search the problem and there appears to be several options.
Anyone using an app for this? Like it?

Scheduling apps and the like inevitably break and bite you just when you need them to work.
Best option for Time Machine is to use it just the way it is.
...And if you have the desk space or the spare Time Capsule, add a second backup for redundancy's sake.

I have one time machine right next to my computer and one on the opposite side of my house. A third is kept offsite. Hal, what additional functionality are you wanting or seeing in these apps?

It should just do its thing every hour -- be seen and not heard.

If you want TimeMachine to do something that TimeMachine doesn't do, then you shouldn't be using TimeMachine, you should be using something like Carbon Copy Cloner instead of, or in conjunction with, TimeMachine.
TimeMachine works best when you let it work the way it was designed to work - plug it in, turn it on, and leave it the frack alone.

Why only then? Time Machine is designed to do hourly incremental backups. (Under Sierra, it's not necessarily on so rigid a schedule.) The slowdown from the operation on any modern Mac would be so small as to be completely unnoticeable.
Why not make a nightly incremental clone instead of using Time Machine?
