Anybody know how much a custom bolt would cost? - Will Collier - 08-22-2017 I have been completely unable to find the right sized part for a guitar modification. Thought I had it with a Chinese part from eBay, but three weeks later it showed up and still wasn't right. Anybody know what a metalwork shop would charge me for a pair of small bolts milled to my specs? (Since somebody is going to ask, I need a bridge stud with an 8mm screw and a ~4mm post.) I'm going to bet that a hobbyist machinist will be TONS cheaper than a machine job shop, but you never know. If my lathe wasn't in storage, and I had the right thread pitch of die, such a screw would take me maybe half an hour to 45 minutes to make, another 10-15 to make it pretty. Someone who makes small screws more often than I do could probably make it half that time. Re: Anybody know how much a custom bolt would cost? - modelamac - 08-22-2017 Go to the local high school shop class or skilled trades school. Take some metal stock with you, but not tool steel (something softer).
