What's This? Amazon Now Charging Prime Customers for UPS Shipping? - mrlynn - 11-26-2017

The cooker that 3d tipped a few days ago arrived today. Turns out it's really a pressure cooker, not a crock pot, so I have to return it. But Amazon wants $13 back if I drop it off at our local UPS store. The return shipping is only free if I drive it into Boston to their nearest Amazon Dropoff location. And that's a pain!

Up to now, Prime returns via UPS drop off have been free. This makes Prime less attractive. Maybe it's time to start buying from other sites, anyway. Amazon is getting to big for its britches, methinks.

Is it "Not as described?"

I had to pay return shipping several years ago on a Prime purchase, it was heavy, a Laser Printer. I don't recall if I had to pay directly or if they deducted it from the refund, but I don't think Amazon offers free returns on ALL items. Here's what Amazon says...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201532130

Only product(s) that say that they are eligible for Free Returns on the product detail page are eligible for Free Returns. Free Returns only applies to product(s) fulfilled by Amazon. It does not apply to the same product(s) fulfilled by other sellers.

....as far as I recall returns due to 'changing mind' are not free.....Amazon only gives free returns if it was their error or the item was damaged/not as described....otherwise you had to pay for return shipping......the exception is clothes marked 'free returns'.....

I had a similar issue recently with headphones I wanted to try, but then returned. I started the return process and since I didn't see a "they were terrible" option, I went with "no longer needed". At the next step I saw they would be deducting the return shipping charge from the refund. So I went back a step and picked something like "not as described", then added a few more details. At the next step, the return shipping was free.

mrlynn, sorry about the Amazon return issues, but the instant pot can function as a slow cooker, too (disclaimer: I've had crock pots and didn't really find them very useful for the kind of cooking we do; the iPot seems to run a little hotter than the crock ones IIRC). Although you might want to try pressure cooking — it's great for beans (which we cook a lot), and I've learned to pressure cook many other things! The pot will also cook rice and has a saute function as well. Mine has a very low setting that works for making yogurt. I am glad Kate recommended this quite a while back, as it has become my third most used appliance (after the coffee grinder and electric kettle!).

Apologies for hijacking the thread! I recommend this appliance wholeheartedly, but wish you good luck with whatever you end up with. If the return is problematic, this iPot would make a terrific gift.

If it is an Amazon partner...... I check Ebay.

Get a dollar credit towards Media download if you skip the 2 day shipping.....Really.

I keep telling myself to pull the Prime plug..... but video game discounts on new titles and release date deliveries keeps me more than anything.

Them is my rants.

I checked 'Made a mistake'. Maybe I should have used a different (if erroneous) option. They have taken shoes back without charging, because they didn't fit.

Thanks Polly— Hijack away! We both have families with bad pressure-cooker experiences (my mother had one blow hot apple sauce all over the kitchen!). My wife decided that PC'd vegetables were horrible. We are experienced rice cookers (in an iron kettle), and sautéers (in skillets), so the only use I can think of is beans, and we don't do much with them, except in chili, when canned will do. Eight quarts isn't big enough for chili or spaghetti sauce, as we make larger quantities and freeze it.

>>so the only use I can think of is beans

We just got our instant pot. The time from googling a recipe to having dinner is impressively short. Its just a fast way to cook one pot meals.
