Golden Globes..Oprah.. - Kraniac - 01-08-2018

i couldn't watch the Globes last night..i watched a few speeches..power to the girls and all for sure..BUT, I've always carried that sentiment...Im married to a very strong women and i have always carried major respect for the gender..doesn't mean i didn't do some serious shagging in my single days..wasn't always very graceful..on both sides actually. Cuz, in case you didn't know it...Women come a looking' for guys, too and, many times, it's not with the best or most pure or even honest intentions..

Im crossed by the fact,,, SO many years of high power Women and Men sweeping Weinstein-like shit under the rug because it was better for their careers. And it happened..it happened WAY more than folks have been speculating on..EVERYONE knew about this. It happened as matter of RULE, people!!

Hollywood is a VERY small world that is ridden with talk that travels fast and hard..,,Hugely powerful women, feminists..Men..disgusting..not Just re Weinstein..These people, for sure, set these known facts aside. and many over the years facilitated Weinstein's machinations and fed his sickness.. Because any interruption of Weinstein's 'roll' meant an interruption for them..Literally thousands and thousands of people in a hysteria like 'shutting of the mouth' to cover their own gig and potential gigs...This is what happened.

The more I watch this whole thing play out the more sickening it is..Weinstein alone...When enough stories dribbled over the top??? Everyone took advantage of THAT scene too, timing is everything..That momentum. Oh my..the 'hero conversion' in that moment..all these people in this closed world who carried this dirt did a flip and suddenly became these sort of sad hero figures..Shocked standers by. So much hypocrisy, me driven, selfishness, protecting of the self via protecting others..This is exactly how a Mafia works. Don't be naive..That IS what this is.

And what they did the other night was wear black..that unity symbolized something else..it represented a unity that says.."we are united..lets all continue to keep our mouths shut about the horrible shit we knew about, and buried.. and terrible stuff we still know and will know..about you, and about him..and about her....because we're all in this together" Yaaay..now bring on Oprah!!!

..Hollywood really is fairly pathetic..and Oprah? I dunno..I kind of agree with the Idiocracy comment in another thread here on the 'political' side..everything's is sorta fucked.

Oprah's speech? Personally i think she's annoying as hell..people will take anything that involves a few volume changes as 'great' these days. That speech was just so predictable..She's obviously great at running her business..is that enough? Is SHE capable of running this government? Oprah???

Another industry self-pat on the back with glitz and self hero- ization and a quiet agreement not dish the dirt about who knew what..cause they all did.

I have more to say about men and women..men vs women..just Women..just Men..but it's pretty base stuff and I didn't know where it fits here..actually i think it should be a footnote in every paragraph..but..nobody'll read this anyhow..

I thought Oprah's speech was wonderful. Perhaps you couldn't identify with it because you were used to seeing people that look like you constantly win Oscars and never saw a moment on an awards show that changed your mind set.

This whole "all those women knew and never told because of their self aggrandizement" is a big theme on Twitter right now. I suggest reading about the women who DID stand up to Weinstein, or told him off, and maybe you'll have a better idea of why it maybe took more guts than a lot of people are born with. I don't think people understand what it's like to have one man capable of ruining your career because you pissed him off.

As a matter of fact, I had one argument, ONE argument, with my superior at my last job and when I reported him to HR and insisted on a brokered meeting with him, he put me on probation with a list of demands that I could never possibly meet and put it in writing that he could fire me even if I did manage to fulfill all the demands. So I did what he wanted, I quit. Sometimes I wish I had stayed and fought but I thought being fired from a job I'd had for 14.5 years would look bad on my resume so I chose a friendly, non-confrontational "I quit" to the VP as my best choice out of all lousy choices. And all because I had said to the guy, "I am too upset to talk right now, I will have to talk to you later" and hung up. Which set him off so badly that the woman in the next office said it scared her how he was talking to me and waving his fists. But she was afraid to tell HR about it in case he came after her.

And there you are.

The biggest difference is that Trump thinks only of Trump. Oprah, whatever you may think of her, thinks of the people around her and around the world. Her speech reached out to the girls like her who need to see that life can be more than they may imagine. And she is an optimist even when the rest of us may feel like it's all gone to hell.

Yikes, a huge amount of victim blaming here. And misconstruing what an aggrieved person can and cannot do. I certainly suffered far less than some of these women, but the complaints I did make were few and far between. Why? Trashing my career was not the way I wanted to fight back, resolve, or change the environment. As for other women in the field, if they did not want to pursue it they had to be respected. Trashing their life and their career is not someone else's choice. So I and other women are now to be blamed, called hypocrites, or lambasted for advancing in our careers? Hollywood is no different than any other career. It just has more visibility. Pretty darn easy to sit in judgement when it's not you and not even something that applies to you.

Want to get on my mother's bad side? THINK something questionable about Jesus, Oprah and her Princess Ellen, Barack and Michelle Obama. Me: "It's GOOD that Oprah wants to be president, Mom." Then you can eat all the Gumbo you want. My mother is still my guiding light for real.

Bullshit..there is a very grim reality here..the group denial..the group mentality..a group that is populated by folks who driven in an extremely cutthroat community..it IS a Mafia code..

I worked for twenty years running a commercial photo business in a very large market working with some of the most high power agencies..advertising and Casting/Modeling.. EVERYONE knew who the dogs were, the dangerous ones..but the agencies continued to drop people, mostly women into the shark holes..extremely sleazy..there were 'victims' who knew exactly what they were doing and those who were actual victims..and it's always like that. But the overwhelming thing was the umbrella of silence because nobody wanted to upset the apple cart..this is the EXACT same thing..

Of course there are victims..Im speaking mostly about the people who knew..non victims who knew over and over again what was going on and who zipped it because they were making money

Re: Golden Globes..Oprah.. - Kraniac - 01-08-2018

pfft. Oprah as president..I knew a ton of folks who worked at Harpo Studios in chicago..you guys don't have a clue..NOT a happy place..sound familiar? Another narcissist businessperson lining up for the job..someone with ZERo experience in how a government works..I'd prob vote for her for a Senate spot..

And, speeches at the Golden Globe awards don't mean shit..wake up..

What you all saw last night was, in fact..circling of the wagons of a community that KNOWS what their baggage will do..they want the money to keep flowing..

Okay, we get it. You are an embittered cynic. Sorry I can't go there but I can't.

Yes Trump thinks only of Trump and Oprah thinks of....

be careful..Oprahs "brand" is what you described after that..Oprah herself, as president is something altogether different...
