T-Ball coach sends out a list of equipment for the parents to purchase... $$$
2018 USA baseball approved bat
9 inch glove (preferably not vinyl)
Batting helmet
Cleats
Athletic cup and undershorts w/pocket
Sternum/Heart protector to wear under uniform
This is for a 4 year old T-BALL league. These kids can barely hit the ball off a tee to go 10 feet. Sheesh!!
I don't suppose anyone here has Extra-Small size hand me downs to generously donate?
I'll pass on the used cup though. That's a bit personal, even for a 4 year old.

buy THE BEST to give your kid the edge! You only decision is college scholarship or straight to the pros.

You know, not every kid needs a separate bat. As long as there are a range of sizes available to suit, you should be able to have a team bag with like 4-5 bats max.
Now as fas as the athletic cup goes...

Unless they are team-provided bats, the question becomes which families will purchase/supply bats and which will not. More democratic to have each play provide his/her own.

When I was a kid, we shared a half-dozen bats. If you wanted something special you got your own. Be glad that your kid isn't into Ice Hockey....jeebus. I'm going to go broke buying gear for him. He keeps growing, but seems to wait until just after the new gear arrives.

It turns out that pick-up games for 4-year-olds are pretty hard to find.

This is not far from the mark. However, I think it’s really a triumph of marketing that makes so many people think they need to “look the part” in order to play the part. That’s why you see Spandex-clad seniors wobbling along the bike pathways, waving to their befuddled but smartly-attired grandchildren on the athletic fields.

This is how our league works. We started before grade school and Little Zealand 2 still doesn't have his own bat or helmet yet 3 years later. He has the glove, cleats (reused from soccer and Little Zealand 1) and underwear/cup but I've never heard of this Sternum/Heart protector.
