Beto O'Rourke is doing well and Ted Cruz is very afraid - Lemon Drop - 08-05-2018

It's only August and Beto is within striking distance of winning the US Senate seat currently held by Ted Cruz. It's still a "leans Republican" race but that much weakness in such a solidly red state is surprising.
The key is whether Beto can maintain fundraising levels, so far he's far surpassing expectations on that. Getting on TV across Texas is very expensive and to date he's relied more on in-person campaigning and social media. I think if this guy can get his message to enough people and places in Texas and Dems launch a strong voter turnout effort, he could win. That would be the upset of the year.
Something else surprising, and good news for Dems: a poll out this weeks shows 52% of Texans now "disapprove" of Trump.

I’m voting for Beto. Going to put a sign in my yard about Sept. I hope my TX state rep that walks by my home sees the sign and stops by the house campaigning. As your u know, I’m an X Cruz supporter but he lost me when Trump came in the picture.

I think this is the single most important race to watch this year. Every single Senate race is IMPORTANT; what happens in Texas in 2018 could easily define whether the GOP turns to become more Trumpian until 2020, or turns against him.

Beto is still behind. With luck, a great turnout and Cruz finally creeping everyone out, he'll win.

I'm amazed that any normal human running against Cruz isn't ahead by at least high single digits. IIRC, he only won the seat after they changed the date of the special election three times which resulted in record low turnout.

Huh??
Texas has not elected a Democrat to the US Senate since Lloyd Bensen in 1988. That's why even the possibility that Beto could win is quite remarkable.

Absolutely agree with that. It's all about mid-term turnout, which can be really challenging for the party not in power in particular.

It's primarily a Democratic Party problem. Republicans vote.

Ted Cruz was even slimier then, when you voted for him the first time....
