Apple Airport time capsule - bruceko - 08-28-2018 My time capsule is slowly dying due to over heating tried a repair but it was no go. It operates in bridge mode behind a fios routerI really like the compactness of it and use the 4 port hub and time machine Should I just get a new one? any suggestions for other options. I do have a newer Lynksys 9200 but it is big and was difficult to set up. It did not like to operate in bridge mode. Took a couple of hours with tech support to get it set up. had to put it on its own sub net so it doesn't see most items on my network with no firmware updates on the airport will it remain secure? Re: Apple Airport time capsule - pdq - 08-28-2018 Don’t think you can get a new one anymore. eBay, maybe? Re: Apple Airport time capsule - NewtonMP2100 - 08-28-2018 .....refurbs for Time Capsules in Apple refurb store....... Re: Apple Airport time capsule - sydric - 08-28-2018 Apple has refurbs available through the online Apple Store. They come and go frequently. https://www.apple.com/us-hed/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/mac_accessories Re: Apple Airport time capsule - N-OS X-tasy! - 08-28-2018 You'll never do better than 802.11n with the Time Capsule. If you get the right one, it will support 450 Mbps max throughput. As time marches on, though, it's likely you will want a router with one of the newer, faster standards (802.11ac now, 802.11ax soon). Having said that, I love my Time Capsule. As you indicate, it's unobtrusive and has worked flawlessly since I purchased it in 2011. Re: Apple Airport time capsule - Ombligo - 08-28-2018 Another option is to get a Airport Extreme and plug a drive into it. The same speed limitations apply, but you can switch drives easily. That said, I'd look for another, faster router that is Time Machine friendly. Re: Apple Airport time capsule - Pam - 08-28-2018 I've been migrating over to Apple cloud services. I also have external drives for longer term storage of pictures and video. Once my time capsule gives up I'll use a plain jane router. Re: Apple Airport time capsule - MindMeld - 08-28-2018 Both the 2T and 3T refurb Time Capsules in the Apple Refurb store show 802.11ac speeds. Re: Apple Airport time capsule - OWC Jamie - 08-28-2018 802.11AC for sure with Time Capsule. I've fixed probably 15 of them, upgraded drives, etc... not that hard. New fans readily available on eBay. Don't want to mess with it? PM me. ![]() Re: Apple Airport time capsule - N-OS X-tasy! - 08-28-2018 OWC Jamie wrote: OP specifically stated a preference for the low-profile TC, which means the older 802.11n version. |
