A couple teachers here were confused about "where's that noise coming from?"... quickly solved, equally quickly forgotten.
It works. Now we can move on with our lives.

I turned off my phone ahead of time to avoid the standard Emergency Broadcast Tone that happens every time I receive the other mandatory broadcast alerts like the Emergency Broadcast System and Amber Alerts.
When I booted up my phone a couple of minutes ago, it started beeping the alert. So there appears to be no avoiding these things.
This appears to be identical in form and function to the pre-existing Emergency Broadcast System. Have they just renamed it?

FEMA's Presidential alert was instituted four or five years ago and they're just getting around to testing it now. It's for national disasters not local weather phenomenon. TV Broadcast has had to test their systems every now and then, this is just a test for the marriage of the two systems in an emergency.
Was exactly 2:18 here according to my laptop. I heard the phone buzz twice but didn't bother picking it up as I knew what it was.

My classroom was all abuzz.. I got to hear the alert in surround sound.
i'll give the administration credit, they made an announcement at 2:15 reminding all that it was going to happen and that there would be no repercussions if phones went off and had to be taken out of bags to silence (it was a subtle way of telling some of the Phonenazi teachers to chill)
ADDENDUM - I was surprised that it came across the old iphone in my car that I use as a audiobook reader. It doesn't even have a sim card in it.
