Phone for elderly stroke victim - Buck - 10-03-2018

An elderly relative has no more use of the right arm and hand. And she was right handed.
We're thinking to get her a flip phone with speed dials, simple to operate.

Her speech is fine, so would iphone/Siri be a good option? "Siri, call Buck mobile"
The other smartphone options will be too overwhelming for her, and I don't want anything going wrong.

Is she mobile enough to require a phone, or will an Echo like device suffice ? A smart phone implies she may want to use some of the features, like photos for grandma's brag book. How is her eyesight ?

Lots of folks in assisted living use iPads and other tablets. An iPad mini or even a large iPhone is a great device that can definitely be used single handed, and Siri is a real help.

My brother, a stroke victim, prefers the smart phone to the flip phone. He can unlock it with just his left hand. He lost his speech so he has to use Contacts, Recents, etc. or dial the number. I guess if Ombligo can handle an iPhone with one arm, then anyone can

Well I'll give some thought then.. Size - I prefer the SE because I can hold it and type with my thumb. The larger phones are just awkward and I end up laying them down to type. I would suggest letting her try different phones to find one that is comfortable.

As an aside - a stroke truly scares me. If I get left side paralysis then I am truly helpless.

Ombligo, sorry, and thanks. Since you're on this forum, you must be computer literate too. But this 85yo young lady isn't. We'll let her play with an iPhone 7 though and see.
