UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - pdq - 01-30-2019 Yes, we want Brexit - that Brexit we voted for, that would be easy, and definitely not a no-deal Brexit. Also, please solve that thorny Ireland border deal, and have the EU pay for it all. M'kay? Politicians voted against leaving the EU ”without a withdrawal agreement and a framework for the future relationship.” Oops. While they were at it, Parliament turned down an amendment that would have sought a delay in Brexit. May and (mostly) the conservatives are barreling toward a no-deal disaster, and the pound is starting to reflect that. Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - Lemon Drop - 01-30-2019 A right royal mess. Anyone else want to leave the EU? Anyone? No? Well, there you go. Example made. Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - davester - 01-30-2019 One of the best Brexit commentators who opines regularly on the madness, John Crace: John Crace wrote: Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - testcase - 01-30-2019 "Anyone else want to leave the EU? Anyone? No? Well, there you go." What's the acronym? PIIGS? (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Spain). ALL BROKE (or nearly so), why would THEY leave a "union" that's carrying their debt? I'm more surprised that the countries that are more fiscally prudent would agree to carry the deadbeats. Once GB "escapes" let's see how long it takes for other "givers" to follow GB's example (especially since fewer member countries will have to pay more to take up the slack). Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he can eat everyday. Give a man (or country) a dollar and they'll come back for more (again and again and again....). WWII debt went LARGELY unpaid. If I recall correctly, ONLY Finland repaid their war debt. Everybody else decided it was best to ignore their debt, hate the United States, and bite the hand that fed them. When will we learn that "bought" friendships last only as long as the money flows? If foreigners are going to hate us, we should STOP paying them TO hate us. Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - Acer - 01-30-2019 Brexiteers, anti-vaxxers, climate deniers, MAGA walls...the world is taking crazy pills. Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - mattkime - 01-30-2019 Wow, thats a dark take on the EU. The EU has its problems but it almost entirely related to having a unified monetary policy due to the the shared currency. The ripple effects spread considerably. But the free movement of goods and people? You have to go pretty far right to hear anyone complaining about that. Yes, EU membership costs something but its silly to not consider the significant benefits of membership. testcase wrote: Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - davester - 01-30-2019 testcase wrote: I really have no idea what you're trying to say here. As near as i can tell this is a diatribe based n a misunderstanding of money as it relates to governments. Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - deckeda - 01-30-2019 testcase seems to think EU members are “states” being subsidized by a “federal” entity, the U.S.? Yeah, the breadcrumbs on this one are pretty stale. Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - cbelt3 - 01-30-2019 The paws of the Russian Bear are all over the Brexit kerfluffle, just like they are all over our President. The Internet has delivered a hitherto unheard of tool into the hands of the reborn Soviet Union, and enabled it to destabilize its list of enemies: The US NATO The EU They tried for China, but China locked their internet down, and is using it to control their own population. Re: UK: Parliament votes in favor of fantasy - rjmacs - 01-30-2019 Stiff upper lip, old chap. It would be undignified to slow the train now - the people voted in favor of locomotion, and we must remember that no matter where these tracks lead! ![]() It's all fun and games until the Troubles are reignited by a hard border. This is not a joke. |
