broken iPhone conundrum - rz - 02-22-2019

I bought an iPhone 5c at a garage sale this morning that has the front glass mostly shattered. I was able to charge it up, but I can't type in the passcode. The problem is that the right side of the screen isn't responding, so the 3, 6 and 9 keys aren't working and the passcode contains the number 9. I know I can't hook up a bluetooth keyboard because I have to turn on bluetooth in settings, then pair it. I was hoping I could hook a standard USB keyboard to it via the Camera Connection Kit, but that doesn't seem to be working. Not a big deal, as I only paid $5 for the phone and charger, but was wondering if anyone had an idea of what to try next.

never mind, i figured it out. I needed a powered hub to plug the keyboard in for it to work.

.....so nice deal......???

not as nice as if the whole screen worked. I have an old iPhone 4 that's got the smashed screen, but the whole screen works. I have used it as a video camera in a housing that I can take to the beach, or kayaking or wherever, and not worry about destroying an expensive camera or phone if it gets wet. Was thinking the 5c would be a step up camera-wise. I also noticed the camera in back had a chip in the lens. The woman at the sale said I could take it back if I wanted, and I may just do that.

The front screen cost $25 and the lens that’s cracked cost $7. Pretty good deal for a video camera you can fix for $32 ish. For just recording video, I’d take it off your hands.

Mall kiosk will prob do it for $50 in about 20 minutes, and looks great.
