iPhone charging: What's your routine/non-routine? - steve... - 03-03-2019 After a little Googling, the following seems to be good advice: • No need to wait until they get low, you can charge them anytime, even just for a few minutes does no harm. • They can be safely charged every night (no matter how low) and will automatically stop charging when they reach 100%. • Concerning battery life, it's not the number of times you charge, but the total time of charging. Am I right or am I wrong? Re: iPhone charging: What's your routine/non-routine? - hal - 03-03-2019 I plug it in when it gets low - is that a routine? Re: iPhone charging: What's your routine/non-routine? - Carm - 03-03-2019 I try to charge when it gets to 10-20 percent and I’m ok with it getting to 85-95 percent and pull it off the charger. Most of the time it’s overnight to 100 percent. That’s supposed to be the “sweet spot” of charging. The phone does cut itself off when it gets to 100% I think you are right, charging time vs amount times attached to a charger. Re: iPhone charging: What's your routine/non-routine? - Sarcany - 03-03-2019 From all that I've read, it shortens the life of a lithium battery to top it off, to completely deplete it or to let it get warm/hot while charging. It's best to keep it charged somewhere between 30-70% or so. I ignore that and top off my iPhone on the charger in the morning before work. Re: iPhone charging: What's your routine/non-routine? - space-time - 03-03-2019 I wish our devices would allow us to set a max charge before they stop charging. For example, I would like to set up the iPhone to stop charging at 90 or 95%, not 100%. Same idea for MacBook, AppleWatch, etc. Supposedly this is what Chevy does to expend the life of Lithium batteries in Chevy Volt. They report low change somewhere around 20% (I believe the exact percentage is 16% and people found out mods to change that to 12%) and on the upper side they stop at 90% or so. Why can't we do this with iPhones? Back to your question: no real routing, sometimes charge at night, sometimes in t he morning. We had phones that last 5 years and battery is still acceptable. My iPhone 5 needed a new battery after 3 years because of swelling, not because is lost capacity (although I believe capacity loss was imminent at that point). That may have happened because I let it get hot in the cart a few times. This never happened with my wife's white iPhones. Re: iPhone charging: What's your routine/non-routine? - Ombligo - 03-03-2019 I seldom carry it at home, so whenever I am home it is plugged in and charging. My wife essentially runs hers until it shuts down and then charges it. Re: iPhone charging: What's your routine/non-routine? - wurm - 03-03-2019 I almost always charge it overnight. If I'm at less than 40% or so by the end of 2 full days, I'll throw it on the charger before I go to bed that night. If It's still around 45% after two days, I'll push it to a third day. Usually by the end of that third day, percentage is in the teens, so that night I'll charge it up. Re: iPhone charging: What's your routine/non-routine? - Mr Downtown - 03-03-2019 Every Sunday night.
