Meanwhile in Alabama - deckeda - 06-27-2019

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/06/27/pregnant-woman-was-shot-stomach-she-was-indicted-her-babys-death/?utm_term=.c7291a50baf1

A pregnant woman was charged in the death of her unborn child, because she got into it with another woman outside a store. The other woman shot the would-be mom, but it's the would-be mom "who is at fault" for the death.

A grand jury failed to indict the other woman, who said she acted in self defense.

Perhaps the would-be mom also had a weapon, yet none is mentioned. Perhaps, and probably, that's irrelevant in today's world.

“The investigation showed that the only true victim in this was the unborn baby,” [police Lt. Danny] Reid said in December, in the days following the shooting. “It was the mother of the child who initiated and continued the fight which resulted in the death of her own unborn baby.”

Oh dear god.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue said on Twitter: “This is what 2019 looks like for a pregnant woman of color without means in a red state. This is now.

Yes. Yes it is.

“It was the mother of the child who initiated"

The Original Sin/George-Washington-cherry-tree reasoning lives on. Whataboutism will literally kills us all.

"only true victim"

It's difficult to imagine anything more demeaning being said.

Alabama doesn't have women.

They have breeding stock.

If only the fetus were properly armed.

I know ya'll don't like reparations here on the MRF, but I think every person of color accused of anything in a former Confederate state should be guaranteed at least $100K to hire an attorney. That'd be one very small step towards justice.

Meanwhile now that this case has hit national media I hope this young woman has a good attorney at her side very soon.

I would certainly be in line for my cut.

Do you need bail again? I'm about to hit the credit card limit.

Not yet. I wouldn't waste mine on a lawyer though. I'd forgive those that trespassed against me and use my lawyer money to buy a new Mac Pro 'with" the monitor stand.

I had been thinking about this a few weeks ago. I figured the best way for clinic workers to avoid getting prosecuted for performing abortions was for them to shoot the fetuses out with a handgun. This story pretty much affirms that.
