Trump can't get common sense gun laws but he can get a movie cancelled! - Lemon Drop - 08-10-2019 ??? https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/universal-scraps-hunt-release-gun-violence-uproar-1230716 Re: Trump can't get common sense gun laws but he can get a movie cancelled! - deckeda - 08-10-2019 The weird thing is that nothing within his tweets should have pushed them to delay. 110% baseless rhetoric. As for the movie, it seems odd to characterize the plot as a satire, like funny ha-ha satire? I wouldn’t think so. But maybe I’d find it HILARIOUS, seeing as how I’m apparently “beyond” the pale regarding others’ feelings. ![]() Re: Trump can't get common sense gun laws but he can get a movie cancelled! - Lemon Drop - 08-10-2019 deckeda wrote: You're not beyond the pale. Sorry friend. The producer of this film has made some really good stuff. But it's very dark. Have you seen Get Out, or Sharp Objects? Same producer. I don't know about this one though, this may be over the top: The ironic thing about right wing objections to this film is that the "deplorables" are actually the protagonists in this one. Premise The film follows twelve strangers, referred to as "deplorables" in the trailer, who mysteriously wake up in a clearing.] They do not know where they are or how they got there. They discover that they have been chosen to be hunted in a game devised by a group of rich elites. The hunters gather in a remote facility called the Manor House, but their sport gets derailed when one of the hunted, Crystal (Gilpin), fights back and starts killing them one by one." Re: Trump can't get common sense gun laws but he can get a movie cancelled! - Sarcany - 08-10-2019 That movie should never have been made to begin with. Very poor judgment from the studio. Really?? “In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of globalist elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport." They already had to suspend advertising for it due to the recent mass-shootings. They were going to lose money on it. Better to cut losses now. Re: Trump can't get common sense gun laws but he can get a movie cancelled! - SteveG - 08-10-2019 Comcast Universal Pictures is an American film studio, owned by Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBCUniversal, and is one of Hollywood's "Big Six" film studios. Its production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal City, California. Re: Trump can't get common sense gun laws but he can get a movie cancelled! - deckeda - 08-11-2019 OK now that the premise isn’t what I thought, it’s even stranger. “Deplorables” who are not, is a thing that might make conservatives feel righteous. But no, Trump has to get his panties in a bunch and portray it as if “elites” are being glorified. Whatevs. My sense is that any movie that turns political extremes into a game diminishes a serious problem we have. Re: Trump can't get common sense gun laws but he can get a movie cancelled! - vision63 - 08-11-2019 I can see why they cancelled it. They're solely trying to make money and bet they could on that premise. But not if it's going to be a bunch of hassle. That just slows down the money gathering element. Re: Trump can't get common sense gun laws but he can get a movie cancelled! - Lemon Drop - 08-11-2019 I think the movie is social satire about inequality. Not so much political sides as extreme haves v. the rest of us, and how much power those extreme haves have. Maybe Trump was offended because the movie makes billionaires look craven. This producer has turned out some very good stuff. It's not a good moment to release a movie about killing a lot of people regardless of genre. Good call not to release it. |
