Sunday morning, Jesus and Netflix - Lemon Drop - 08-11-2019 Has anyone watched this docuseries called "The Family?" I watched most of it last night, only because my friend Jack Jenkins is one of the journalists featured. It's fascinating. I had never heard of Doug Coe or The Family; I'd heard of the C Street residence because Mark Sanford lived there for a time. I didn't know the National Prayer Breakfast was part of this movement. The international work they did is horrifying (Russia, Nigeria, Uganda, Romania, etc) The series does a good job explaining how a person like Donald Trump was re-branded into a leader so admired by Evangelicals. Can you provide a little more info? I could not find a link in a couple of brief searches. I did find this: Mariia Butina and the National Prayer Breakfast religionnews.com/2018/07/18/why-mariia-butina-wasnt-the-only-russian-targeting-the-national-prayer-breakfast/ Re: Sunday morning, Jesus and Netflix - Lemon Drop - 08-11-2019 https://www.netflix.com/title/80063867 Here's the link to the Netflix series, which is new. Sharlet's first book on the Family came out in 2009 and he's written a few more since. The Netflix series is based on his research. I've never tuned in to his work until now. Given Maria Butina and Russian interference with our elections it takes on new relevance. |
