Black Screen of Death.... iPhone X, XR - Carm - 09-07-2019
Wife tells me this morning her phone “just died”. She was using it and she put it down and it died. It was fully charged. She reminds me of her dads iPhone XR having the same issue and I remember a co worker having the same issue. I forget how to reset a iPhone X series without a home button, so I have to look it up.
*** iPhone X’s Reset: Press and release “Volume Up”, then press and release “Volume Down”, then hold the “Power Button” until the Apple logo appears.

Apparently it’s an iOS crash and is happening on multiple Xes. My FIL took his phone to a sprint store and they opened it up and disconnected/reconnected his battery and closed it back up. WTH!
On a similar note, I’ve noticed my screen going black with dots circling like it was going to shut down, only for the stupid “upgrade notice” to appear on my screen later. Apple is really trying get to me to upgrade the OS.

I really hope the sprint store had the certification to do the battery thing. Otherwise, there goes the warranty...
I am of the idea, and I understand is too personal these days, that software updates are like homework.
We are expected to have them done, or else we will get left behind. ymmv though.

The whole living in fear of updates used to get me long ago, but no longer.
At least with our iDevices, everything is backed up via iCloud -- so even if some update killed it, would just be a simple reformat and restore.
Now when updates come out I walk around the house and make sure everyone is doing it asap.
No issues with either of our Xrs -- close to 1 year old -- and one gets *serious* teenager use. Unreal.

It doesn't void your warranty to open up your phone and connect/disconnect the battery. The FTC said so.

Just another example of "Apple Quality" these days.......
I regularly get an Error Message that I'm NOT "connected to the internet" even though I'm seeing GOOD to EXCELLENT 4g/LTE AND / OR WiFi signals. I'm on an iPhone8+, 256GB on Verizon. I went through THREE iPhone6S+ phones on AT&T's network with the SAME problem. Apple Stores and AT&T stores were of NO help. :villagers:
I was at an RV Tech seminar with ~ 300 other people. I explained the problem I was REGULARLY experiencing and, when I asked if anyone else was having that problem, at least 50 hands went up. This can NOT be only a carrier issue. Apple, WTF is going on???? :oldfogey:

I had a crash while updating my SE to iOS12.
It took multiple attempts to restore the phone successfully.
Although I lost no data, having backed up to my Mac just prior to the install, it took a toll on my sanity. Now, I have to re-enable Touch ID on all my apps that use it (a fair number of them).
Yes, it was a reformat and restore, but it was not simple.
I know, now, not to attempt to update my phone at midnight while out of town on vacation.

I thought it was still a grey area.
As per my personal experience, I wish all devices performed as good as my Apple thingies.
My brother experience is different. He also chooses to mix new systems with old software, and trusted services like iCloud with ones that have been prone to hacks, like WhatsApp and google services -Notes in particular.
Just yesterday, he could not find a note through notes app, but it was found with the search from the “desktop”.
I wish I knew how to rebuild Note’s database, like in mail...

The Sprint store has a “repair/tech facility” within the store and that’s the one he took it to.
They are the goto place to perform diagnostics before submitting for repairs under Sprint warranty.
As far as upgrading when they come out. I’m of the school “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

what was the battery level and what was the ambient temperature?
my SE did reboot with about 25% battery left, and I was in San Francisco, which was a little colder than usual here in NJ.
