Name this...item - wurm - 09-08-2019

Okay, anyone know what the heck this is? i was topping off the tires on my wife's car and saw this thing lying in the grass a few feet in front of the vehicle. I have no idea whether it even came from her vehicle or just randomly blew there from somewhere else. For what it's worth, it's hollow and has no real substance to it; more like a dummy plug to keep water out of whatever hole it may screw into. Thoughts?

Metal or plastic?

Drain plug, for sure. What model car parks there?

If it's plastic, might also be something from a lawn sprinkler system.

Or maybe fell off of a lawn mower.

Maybe one of those adjustable rubber bumpers for a hood, trunk or rear hatch. What car?

It's plastic. The car it was found in front of is a 2010 BMW 335i convertible. Not likely from the mower, as we never mow in that area.

With that o ring color and size. It’s probably a drain plug from radiator of a newer car. Or another tank off of a car. Looks like someone was working on their car and forgot to toss it in the trash.
What does it smell like (anything related to radiator or oil)?

Re: Name this...item - wurm - 09-08-2019

No real odor to it. Of course, I washed it off and got the mud and dirt that was inside. The end of it is hollow almost all the way to the inside of the (10-11mm) plastic "head". it must have been in the tall grass a while and none of the vehicles is acticg strangely so I'm guessing it's nothing important...but what the hell do I know. Wink

Looks like it has an "O" ring. That means it's supposed to seal something.

I doubt a lightweight plug would be used to seal a vehicle's engine. I have seen lightweight synthetic material plugs used in garden equipment.

Looks like it could be a sealing plug for a vacuum port of some description. For example, motorcycles have ports that allow a vacuum gauge to be attached so multiple carbs or fuel injector throttle bodies can be synchronized.

Edit: Never mind, it’s too big for that, plus the plastic wouldn’t handle the engine heat.
