The debited the $134 and froze my account for a month while they investigated. Had to pay my bills on credit. (Lucky I had the credit.) They punish you either way. Someone gives you money into your bank account, you can't keep it. Innocent people had their credit adversely affected through NO fault of their own. The bank error, however, is an entirely different matter. The recipients knew (or should have known) that said money was NOT theirs and, they should have taken action to remedy what was obviously a mistake. Had they done so and got “blown off” by the bank, that would have resulted in a very different outcome.
