Bought a new/used Samsung curved display....and..... - Jerry® - 09-11-2019

My old display was an LG IPS 21.5 in and now i can't remember the model or its specs. Anyway, today I bought a new-to-me Samsung curved 24in display C24F390 Display (23.5-inch (1920 x 1080). I like it but it's different than my LG and i am still trying to properly calibrate it - any help would be appreciate it. Oh and when I choose to fill the screen or full screen with QuickTime and other apps it doesn’t fill the whole monitor - there are empty bars on each side (empty meaning you can see the desktop or the app under the current one). What am i doing wrong and was this purchase a good/bad/indifferent choice?

thanks

here's a link to the monitor i bought today:

What resolution does your mac say its running at?

>still trying to properly calibrate it

Any other aspect of the monitor that needs calibration?

I always end up turning down the brightness on a new monitor, like, REALLY LOW. I swear monitor makers have been in a war to fry retinas.

Seems pretty clear that the problem is in the display's settings.

Um, you might want to turn off freesync via the monitor controls. thats the only thing that jumped out at me. Since you mentioned that its used I'll post a link to the manual - http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201906/20190618104444943/BN46-00552H-Eng_for_India.pdf

Seems like it would work right out of the box. Plug and play.

Although its physically larger by 2", its the exact same 1920 x 1080 resolution as your old monitor. So it doenst actually show more, just shows the same a bit larger.

Im assuming that was the goal, right (?) just larger pixels -- as opposed to more screen real estate? Like a 27" montior with 256 x 1440 -- which could have smaller pixels, but shows more actual stuff.

yes that was the intent - it wasn’t really for more screen real estate but not that i mind.
