Downloading videos - Ca Bob - 09-20-2019
I would like to download a couple of videos for a presentation on earthquake preparedness. There are lots of them around the internet including that you-something site. Could somebody explain the way to download such videos in order to import them into Final Cut Express and/or Powerpoint in order to show them. Is there a program that is safe to use? Thanks.

I use some Chrome plug-ins also, but they're hit or miss and Google doesn't allow them to work on YouTube. This is what I use most often, and I use these at least weekly:
https://www.4kdownload.com/ - Works great for YouTube.
https://applian.com/mac/replay-media-catcher/ - So far, seems to work for other sites I've needed (usually Vimeo). It had trouble with ESPN, because it was downloading 1 second clips repeatedly, so I gave up on that video.

I've been using a Firefox AddOn called "YouTube Download Plus" that puts a 'Download' button under the You-something video. It allows you to save it as an MP4 or MP3 file.

Yeah, but YouTube doesn't allow anything better than 360P to be downloaded anymore.

If you just want to show them, just connect a TV to a mac and play the video on youtube - no need for FCP or powerpoint

4k Video Downloader works great on YouTube and many other sites and it's free unless you want an app window that doesn't have an ad at the bottom.

Thanks everyone. The location does not have reliable wifi, so we have been warned to bring everything downloaded and ready to play.

ClipGrab is my goto as well.
Works very well, and when it doesn't, there's always an update to it that does.
It works on vimeos , too.
