my house has a sloppy orifice - mattkime - 09-21-2019 Its pretty clear that whoever did the AC install (in 2016) got tired and said "well, fuck it" - I recently replaced the ac line insulation which I suspect lasted about 2 years - not bad considering that it wasn't outdoor rated. Nor is the line protected from the elements in any other such matter. Clearly it wasn't a concern during install. I guess its possible that the AC line has been there much longer. this is where my ac line meets my house. someone glopped a ton of sealant on it and called it a day. a little cursory research reveals that there ports designed for such things - but hindsight is 50/50. unfortunately the ports I've found can only be used at install time and I need something that would work with the existing ac line. pardon the bad photo ![]() does anyone have an idea on how to improve this? Otherwise I'm just going to have to add to the mess. I can't say I have much respect for anyone who really expects a large amount of sealant to really get the job done. Better lighting would be a start. Re: my house has a sloppy orifice - MikeF - 09-21-2019 Is there extra refrigerant line to make it flush with the wall? or Google "refrigerant line cover" Re: my house has a sloppy orifice - C(-)ris - 09-21-2019 Most of the time a bunch of goop is how it is done. Re: my house has a sloppy orifice - MrNoBody - 09-22-2019 You could get something like this from HD for < $5: ![]() Slit it down the side, place around the lines & against the wall; then seal with caulking. It's adjustable, "Fits vent pipe: 1-1/4 in. 1-1/2 in. 2 in. or 3 in.". They also sell similar flashing for walls too. |
