my house has a sloppy orifice - mattkime - 09-21-2019

Its pretty clear that whoever did the AC install (in 2016) got tired and said "well, fuck it" - I recently replaced the ac line insulation which I suspect lasted about 2 years - not bad considering that it wasn't outdoor rated. Nor is the line protected from the elements in any other such matter. Clearly it wasn't a concern during install.

I guess its possible that the AC line has been there much longer.

this is where my ac line meets my house. someone glopped a ton of sealant on it and called it a day. a little cursory research reveals that there ports designed for such things - but hindsight is 50/50. unfortunately the ports I've found can only be used at install time and I need something that would work with the existing ac line.

pardon the bad photo

does anyone have an idea on how to improve this? Otherwise I'm just going to have to add to the mess. I can't say I have much respect for anyone who really expects a large amount of sealant to really get the job done.

Neither picture is all that good for seeing what is going on with the entry of the line into the house. Better lighting would be a start.

Most of the time a bunch of goop is how it is done.

You could get something like this from HD for < $5:

Slit it down the side, place around the lines & against the wall; then seal with caulking. It's adjustable, "Fits vent pipe: 1-1/4 in. 1-1/2 in. 2 in. or 3 in.".
They also sell similar flashing for walls too.
