CBC blood test showed "Suspect NE Blasts". Should I see my hemotologist ASAP? - Dennis S - 09-22-2019

I have Myeloproliferative Neoplasm w/ Essential Thrombocythemia. The concern in that is it can progress to myelofibrosis and possibly then to acute myeloid leukemia. Or I think it can go directly to leukemia. My next scheduled appointment with the hemotologist is October 23. Should I see him ASAP over this? The CBC today was for my family doctor and it's a month before I'm scheduled to see either one.

I don't know that much about your condition, but my instinct would be to communicate with your hemotologist ASAP and possibly get a second blood test to confirm the results of the first.

Yes, call to ask your doc’s nurse what you should do.

Sorry to hear this Dennis. I don’t really know anything about the condition but the little I read about it says it seems to be a condition that doesn’t necessarily shorten a persons life span and there are a number of treatments and clinical trials available depending on the actual type of condition you have, including waiting and watching to see how it progresses. Here’s some info: https://www.lls.org/myeloproliferative-neoplasms/essential-thrombocythemia

I also agree that it’s a good idea to get more information from your doctor and maybe some foundations like the link I posted.

Wishing you good luck with it.

I think it would be reasonable to contact your primary care guy about the result, since he ordered the test.

They can usually have a pathologist take a look at a blood smear made from the existing specimen.
