Will students involved in the college cheating scandal face any charges? - pRICE cUBE - 09-27-2019

So far I have seen charges against the parents only. Conviction of 3 parents so far that include jail time. I am not seeing anything about the students being prosecuted for any crimes. Among those would be conspiracy as some were reported to have posed for photos showing them participating in a sport. Aren’t the odds that some of these kids were actively involved or knew their parents were doing something fishy? Isn’t knowingly taking advantage of a fraud scheme a crime?

Dunno. I expect they have already been labelled by any prospective university as Untouchable. Still waiting on the corrupt practitioners who set up these scams to go down for it.

i think i read some of them have been expelled. some didn't know what their parents did. i can believe that for actions like altered SAT scores. not so much for the ones who did photo ops in water polo, tennis, or soccer gear.

I haven't been following this closely at all, but I'd hope that no kid profited from this, once it was known what the parents did.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about criminal charges, but at the very least I'd expect a negative notation on their permanent record.

Yes, many of the students were expelled or hit the eject button on their own.

I recall reading how some changed into athletic gear and posed for photos. "Dad, why do I have to dress up in a sport I don't even play? Isn't being in on the planning and going along with a criminal conspiracy a crime?

Simply because they participated in photos is not evidence that they know money was changing hands. Let's say the parent tells them "the school is looking for people with these skills, it won't hurt for them to see you in a picture kicking a soccer ball." The whole process is nuts. I absolutely agree that the folks involved in the money exchange need to be taught a lesson. That the Stanford coach escaped is bogus. (Only one I remember)

What about not taking a SAT test at all and some how magically getting into a very nice school?

Rich kids have no idea how the real world works. Everything just gets handed to them. Wouldn't even be on their radar.
