New iPhones - AppleCare+ vs. SquareTrade vs. ?? - DavidS - 12-03-2019

We are in the process of moving from AT&T to Sprint for cell phones. This means 5 new iPhones. My wife is getting an 11 Pro Max. The rest of us are getting 11s.

We've used SquareTrade and AppleCare+ in the past. SquareTrade used to be a better deal, but it seems their screen break coverage still requires a very high co-pay vs. $29 for AppleCare+. Any other companies to consider? I have no interest in paying Sprint $15/month/phone for their coverage.

Alternately, do we just not officially insure any and use that money to "self-insure" against damage and pay out of pocket if/when the inevitable happens?

AppleCare+ covers stupid questions.
Will SquareTrade help you when an update goes waco?

i used to buy Squaretrade and was pleased with the service the times i needed it but as you note, the deal is not as good as it used to be.

my IP11 is covered somewhat by my Amex Blue Cash Card which doubles the warranty so i didn't bother with Squaretrade or AppleCare. if any of the phone owners are college students look into coverage on everything, including their phones, with NSSI. that's how i got my son's damaged iphone replaced the one year he was enrolled.

they used to be WAY better, but I've been hearing similar grumbles in the last few years.

I'm like graylocks and use my credit card doubling as the extended warranty.

Apple insurance is the best , they let you pay monthly if you don’t want to pay the whole sum up front. $12.99 a month. Better protection than sprint for a new phone and a couple of bucks less. The only plus about sprint insurance is that they will cover used phones also.
