Macbook musical chairs - richorlin - 03-10-2020
Last month I got a great deal on a 2016 Macbook 13" at Microcenter the deal.
I ended up returning it because I discovered the left speaker and microphone weren't working. I guess they didn't check it before they puy it on sale. Both being bad would indicate it's not a simple swap-out but probably a logic bvoafrd replacement.
Disappointed about the loss of a great Macbook, I kept checking the open-boxes at BestBuy.
Yesterday, I found an open-box 2019 touchbar 13" Macbook Pro with a 512gb ssd for only $1359.
$1359 for a $2000 Macbook! It was marked "satisfactory" but I took a chance and ordered it. When I picked it up, it was prestine and the warranty was good until 1/12/2021.
I was considering Applecare but then realized I bought the Mac using my Costco Citi card which covers damages/theft and extends the warranty an additional 24 months.
This morning I took it to the Genius Bar and had them do a detailed diagnostics on it and everything checked out, so this one's a keeper.
Now I just have to sell my 12" Macbook that it's replacing.

Congrats!
One possible problem, though is that the Citi card doesn't cover, "pre-owned items." If the open-box MacBook was a return they might consider that pre-owned. I dunno but it might be worth checking.

Havent I been seeing these models pretty discounted lately? I think a NIB 256GB SSD from Costco? Is a refresh coming?

The invoice does say “open-box” but good old scanner and Photoshop to the rescue, if I ever need it LOL.

The extended warranty & damage/theft coverage is only available on the Costco Citi cards. Checked the Citibank website and those benefits only show up for the Costco card.
