Someone talking SENSE about COVID-19 and our "INFODEMIC". - Paul F. - 03-11-2020

It shouldn't take a 20-something "influencer" and travel blogger to talk some damn SENSE into people...
If you want things put in some perspective, give this lady's video a look. Don't worry, it's only 10 minutes... and, not to make too much of it, but, she won't hurt your eyes.

If you also want some good info on travel, solo travel, and how to get around like a local in North Eastern Italy, she's got some very good videos as well. She's currently in New York, doing a series of vids on how to travel cheap in New York City.

Not who I’d look to for medical info.

Maybe this is more up your alley:

The disease expert who warned us

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/10/opinions/osterholm-coronavirus-interview-bergen/index.html

“Michael Osterholm, the infectious disease expert who has been warning for a decade and a half that the world will face a pandemic, says the US is ill-prepared to combat the coronavirus due to a shortage of equipment and supplies.

Osterholm, of the University of Minnesota, wrote in Foreign Affairs magazine in 2005 that, "This is a critical point in our history. Time is running out to prepare for the next pandemic. We must act now with decisiveness and purpose." He reiterated this point in his 2017 book, "Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs."

Osterholm discussed the coronavirus at a recent Washington, DC event at the New America think tank with Peter Bergen, CNN national security analyst and New America vice president.

He took issue with the idea that the flu is a more serious threat, saying the death toll from coronavirus could be much higher than that of a severe flu season. Osterholm said there's very little vacant capacity in the health care system to fully deal with the effects of the coronavirus. And he pointed out that there's a shortage of protective clothing for health care workers.

Osterholm also discussed the impact that widespread obesity might have on that fatality rate; the lack of much-needed ventilators and respirators at hospitals; the ubiquity of the virus and what that means for overseas travel, and he poured much cold water on the notion that this coronavirus might disappear as the weather warms. The [below] discussion was edited for length and clarity.”

I think its true that there's a surplus of information that drowns out the small amount of meaning.

I can tell you didn't actually bother to watch the video... because that was literally her first sentence that she would not be talking about the disease, or biology or medical info.

OK, that was good, and I'm in love!

Her discussion applies to way more than COVID-19. Unfortunately, the people who need to listen to this are the ones who are never going to do it.

I did watch the video, and although it's very good, I find it sad and ironic that an "influencer" has to tell her peer "influencers" not to use their power for evil.

Yeah, I'm watching her eat cookies in Venice right now... She's got quite a personality, in addition to those stunning eyes.

And yes, a lot of people need to hear that - and won't.

Well, SOMEBODY has to tell them! At least someone is...

That's a worthwhile video. Thanks.

We're going to Birmingham this weekend to take care of Baby Boy while our daughter and son-in-law go to NYC for the weekend to see a show and a symphony. Yesterday her firm's executive council (a bunch of really old guys) were considering whether to require that anybody who traveled ANYWHERE could not come to the firm office for 2 weeks following. They can't make people self-quarantine but they can restrict access to the office. My daughter has the benefit of a mother-in-law who's pretty high in the CDC and has access to all of the Covid-19 data without the silliness. She knows where they are going and what they are doing and said it was fine. My daughter made partner last year and so can travel and then spend the next 2 weeks at home without a career worry. I think she's going to go and essentially challenge the executive council to make the decision. One interesting thing was that she said asked a partner that she works with who is on the executive council (and doesn't want her to travel) whether the council had any sort of concern about spouse travel. He said they hadn't thought of that. Those old guys need to watch this video.
