Forrest Fenn’s Treasure Found - btfc - 06-08-2020

‘ A bronze chest filled with gold, jewels, and other valuables worth more than $1 million and hidden a decade ago somewhere in the Rocky Mountain wilderness has been found, according to a famed art and antiquities collector who created the treasure hunt.

Forrest Fenn, 89, told the Santa Fe New Mexican on Sunday that a man who did not want his name released — but was from “back East” — located the chest a few days ago and the discovery was confirmed by a photograph the man sent him.

“It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and had not moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago,” Fenn said in a statement on his website Sunday that still did not reveal the exact location.‘

"Hundreds of thousands have hunted in vain across remote corners of the U.S. West for the bronze chest believed to be filled with gold coins, jewelry and other valuable items. Many quit their jobs to dedicate themselves to the search and others depleted their life savings. At least four people died searching for it."

uh..yeah - becoming penniless or ending up dead, in the hope of finding $1M is not one of my goals. If I was already retired and had the free time to think on the clues left in the poem, I could see spending some time trying to figure it out, and maybe even taking one trip if I thought I had solved it...but spending my life's savings, or putting myself at risk of death? That's a hard NO.

And, $1 million is not enough to set you up for life by a long shot. Living of its investment income at a long-haul 4% it's barely enough to keep you at lower middle class levels. You'll still want your day job.

Keep your day job, and reinvest the dividends from your portfolio... It doesn't take very many years for $1M to grow to something that 4-7% of is a nice cushy income.

Does not matter. The government, like the mob, always gets its cut!

Well, that depends. If the price of gold today is substantially higher than it was when the treasure was hidden, the value of the treasure could be substantially higher than the $1M it was valued at a decade ago. Same goes for the gems.
