It was pretty easy to pull apart with a T5 torx and a spudger. And the batteries drop out, so it's designed to replace. What 1000 maH AAA NIMH batteries do we like ?

FWIW I just dropped a pair of Duracell rechargables that I had around to see what happened. It's blinking, which means they are charging. we will see what happens.
